Toward the Future of Metal Research
Our vision for materials science research combines state-of-the-art manufacturing and processing, multiscale mechanical testing, advanced electron microscopy, and multiscale computation to close the feedback loop for modern structural materials design and development. The primary focus of our group is to understand the fundamental science of complex metallic materials and develop next-generation structural materials operated under extreme conditions (high temperature, high stress, ion irradiation, etc.). Key research thrusts include high-temperature multiple principal element alloys for space and aeronautical applications, additively manufactured refractory alloys for fusion energy applications, alloys with hierarchical structures for higher strength and ductility, and developing high throughput processing, testing, and characterization methodologies toward laboratory automation.
