Mingwei Zhang Research Group is looking for one Ph.D. student and motivated Master's and undergraduate students in the 2025-2026 academic year. The primary tasks for the prospective candidates include:
- Investigate, design, and process ultrahigh-temperature multiple principle element alloys for space and aeronautical applications
- Develop Digital Image Correlation (DIC) techniques and custom mechanical testing methods on metallic structural materials
- Perform finite element simulations on mechanical samples to compare with DIC results
- Using machine learning techniques to establish multidimensional regression models that connect the mechanical load and DIC strain map data to the mechanical properties of material
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or relevant fields
- Proven ability to work productively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience in metal manufacturing and processing, mechanical testing, and/or transmission electron microscopy
- Have published peer-reviewed journals and attended international conferences
- Fluent in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and main experimental, simulation, and plotting software (e.g., CALPHAD, SolidWorks, LabVIEW, Origin)
