Mingwei Zhang Research Group is looking for motivated master's and undergraduate students in the 2026-2027 academic year. The primary tasks for the prospective candidates include:
- Investigate, design, and process ultrahigh-temperature multiple principal element alloys for space and aerospace applications
- Develop multiscale extreme-condition mechanical testing methods on metallic materials
- Perform computational investigations on the materials' phase stability, microstructure, and mechanical response
- Perform state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy and in-situ neutron/synchrotron scattering experiments to investigate the often atomic-scale structures in metals and ceramics
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or relevant fields
- Proven ability to work productively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience in metal manufacturing and processing, mechanical testing, and/or transmission electron microscopy
- Have published peer-reviewed journals and attended international conferences
- Fluent in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and main experimental, simulation, and plotting software (e.g., CALPHAD, SolidWorks, LabVIEW, Origin)
