Bio

Hi. My name is Alex Ian Tam, Chinese name 譚竣仁 (Jyutping: taam4 zeon3 jan4). I am interested in advancing our current understanding of Materials Science Engineering, specifically regarding the metallurgical field (specifically the portion related to nuclear energy) and superconductors (where related to battery technology). At the Zhang Lab, I wish to assist with the modernization and upkeep of laboratory equipment as well as subject various materials under different failure modes. I staunchly believe nuclear technology is the future, and metallurgical advances can help develop the fusion technology of the future.

I am deeply passionate about meeting deadlines, and I have a tendency to do as much as I can, regardless of the difficulty involved. Aside from advancing my field, I want to benefit from the prestige of the university and further my understanding of things that I do not yet know. Aside from this research opportunity, I am also working with Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Materials Science and Engineering Dr. Subhash H. Risbud (shrisbud@ucdavis.edu) on the analysis of novel superconductors at his lab.

In my personal life, I have been taught the benefit of hard work. From my earliest memories, my grandmother owned an antique shop, and I would usually help her move objects, keep inventory, and polish tables. As a hobby, I have an interest in Chinese history and linguistics. Please ask the Language and Literacy Development Lab for more information on my transcription activities.
